Chimwemwe MP pledges to help traders

- By ROGERS KALERO

CHIMWEMWE Member of Parliament Mwila Mutale has said he will lay a firm foundation for poverty alleviation and women empowerment in Zambia Township in Kitwe. The MP pledged that he will set up a revolving fund for trad- ers at Itimpi market to help them boast their capital base.

Mr Mutale said he will next month set up a revolving fund from his personal resources to help marketeers at Itimpi market grow their businesses.

The lawmaker was speaking on Sunday during a public meeting held at Mwambashi Primary School in Garneton Township.

He said, apart from the revolving fund from his personal money, he was hopeful that President Edgar Lungu through the Presidential Empowerment Initiative Fund (PEIF) would also support the traders.

"Am promising you that on April 15, 2018, I will kick off the revolving fund for women empowerment which would aim at laying a firm foundation for poverty alleviation. The revolving fund should be used to improve your capital base.

Mr Mutale, who was with PF constituency executive committee and Itimpi ward Councillor Mpasa Mwaya, said he would strive to fulfil his campaign promises. He said his predecessor, Mwenya Musenge, had failed to accept that he lost the Chimwemwe seat to an Independent as evidenced by his decision to go to court where he lost. "After losing the petition in Court, he became so disgruntled and decided to form a political party where up to now (National Democratic Congress), he is waiting for a messiah. He is John the Baptist, but he is waiting for a messiah to come.

"It does not make sense for a person to lose a parliamentary seat, then form a political party and expect to form government. If you had no courtesy, you were cruel to people, how would you rule a country like that," He said.

Earlier, Mr Mwaya urged the people to support President Lungu who has a number of empowerment programmes.

Ms Mpasa warned party cadres and the residents in the area against following disgruntled politicians who had decided to form political parties after being expelled for indiscipline and corruption.
