CRIMINALS are terrorizing Lusaka’s Roma Township with residents now living in fear, prompting police to call on individuals with leading information to report at the nearest police offices.

Several attacks have been recorded in the area in the last few weeks with the latest involving Lusaka Apex Medical University (LAMU) students resident in the area.

LAMU students’ union president, Joseph Musonda told Daily Nation that three students from Roma campus had been attacked on separate occasions within the same area in the last few weeks.

Mr Musonda has since issued an alert for students to be walking in groups and stay away from strangers.

“Yes I can confirm that three of our students were attacked in Roma. Some even reported at a police post next to Foxdale Mall,” he said.

And a private security company within Roma has also issued an alert, warning residents to avoid moving in the night and booking unfamiliar taxis.

The company disclosed that two attempted hijackings took place last weekend on Zambezi Road.

According to the security firm, a female runner was also allegedly assaulted last Sunday morning on the same road, with claims that the attackers tried to put her into a vehicle.

“In light of these incidents, driving at night should be avoided where possible, no walking or running alone, and use tried and trusted taxi services,” the company warns in the alert.

A UNZA student was also reportedly attacked in an incident that left her with cuts on the face.

Another Roma resident disclosed how a cyclist, approached her friend around 11: 00 on Sunday, pulled out a knife and then tried to bundle her into a corolla that suddenly appeared with men in it.

Meanwhile, Lusaka Province police commissioner, Nelson Phiri called on the victims or people with leading information to report at the nearest police offices.

Mr Phiri said that he had just been reading the rumours on social media but that none of the victims had come forward to report the attacks, for police officers to make necessary follow ups.

He said that it the police need more information on the attacks to be able to put in necessary measures and know which specific areas to focus on.
