BRING ARMY, MATERO RESIDENTS DEMAND

- By MUKOSELA KASALWE

THERE is need for President Edgar Lungu to consider assigning soldiers to Matero’s Paradise compound to help curb the suspected ritual killings that have shook the area, a civic leader has suggested.

Kapwepwe 25 Councillor, Mwamba Salubusa observed that President Lungu had managed to bring sanity to Lusaka following the outbreak of cholera by directing the military to spearhead the clean campaign and that he could consider using the same method to clean out ritualists. Mr. Salubusa has expressed disappointment that the police had taken too long to consider his application for a curfew in the area through Matero police station officer in charge Raphael Moono.

In an interview with the Daily Nation yesterday, the civic leader wondered why only Paradise compound was rocked with ritual killings when Lusaka had so many compounds.

“I would like to appeal to President Lungu to send the Zambia Army to Paradise compound to help put a stop to ritual killings. The Head of State demonstrated this when Lusaka was hit with cholera and he can do it again,” he said. Mr. Salubusa expressed hope that the Know Your Neighbour (KYN) Project was one of the mechanisms to tackle criminal elements.

He has urged the Road Development Agency (RDA) to work on the deplorable roads in the area which were making it difficult for the police and well-wishers to conduct patrols.

Mr. Salubusa bemoaned the poor state of the roads but was quick to mention that some roads would be worked on during the Lusaka 400 kilometre phase two road project.

He said the registration of members of community through a mini census would start on April 1st, 2018.
