Eden University denies ritual killing report

- By CHITE MTONGA

REPORTS of ritual killings at our institution are false, authorities at Lusaka’s Eden University have clarified.

In an interview, Eden University public relations officer Oliver Ng’andu said reports by some media houses and the subsequent visit of police officers on suspicion that one of the students had been killed by ritual killers were false. The institute is located between Zingalume compound and Barlastone farming area, which is feared to be harboring ritual killers.

However, Mr Ng’andu said the female student reported to have been killed was alive and was just assaulted by her male friends after a drinking spree.

“What happened was that one of our female students went to drink beer with some men and when she was drunk they started to demand for sex with her but she refused and tried to run away.

“Unfortunately, they got hold of her and beat her up badly but she did not die. In fact the same lady stays at a boarding house within the area,” he said.

Mr Ng’andu said the culprits were currently in police custody.

He said the University was safe and there was no need for people to think that the institute was being stalked by ritual killers.

Mr Ng’andu said security measures had been put in place to ensure students’ safety was not compromised.
