Mr Mhango who noted with sadness the high levels of indiscipline amongst teachers urged the school supervisors not to be lenient with culprits at the expense of innocent pupils.
Speaking during the Matero zonal meeting held at Matero Girls Secondary School in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Mhango warned teachers against reporting for work under the influence of alcohol.
Mr Mhango said teachers have a critical role to play in transforming the country hence the need to uphold professionalism.
He said his office will not take kindly to reports of teachers abusing alcohol at the detriment of innocent pupils.
Mr Mhango disclosed that President Edgar Lungu directed him to clean up the mess in the teaching sector, adding that he expects the school supervisors to be on the same page with him in ensuring that professionalism is maintained.
"We expect the Supervisors to be strict and not to be lenient with indisciplined teachers. Let's not protect teachers at the expense of an innocent child," Mr Mhango said.
He however cautioned the supervisors not to harass teachers for no apparent reasons but respect them.
Mr Mhango advised teachers to use the social media responsibly to advance their professional issues and not for rumour mongering.
