Singing soldier earns instant promotion

By NATION REPORTER PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu yesterday honoured the lead singer in the joint Defence Forces Choir, Staff Sargent Davis Lombe with an instant promotion to the rank of Warrant Officer for his singing skills which has made the group popular in the country.

This was after renowned gospel artist Kings Malembe Malembe commended Sargent Lombe over his skill and powerful musical voice

Lombe joined kings Malembe in a powerful performanc­e of the popular song “ka donkey” which earned him a standing ovation.

Staff sergent Lombe as they were singing the popular “Niwe Lesa” seemed to impress Malembe Malembe with his steady strong vocals as he sang as though they were his own lyrics.

Malembe Malembe, in amusement appealed to the President to give the Zambia Army officer a promotion because of his strong mesmerizin­g vocals which were an asset.

“This man deserves a promotion for his powerful voice, not just to limit promotions to footballer­s,” he said.

And as they continued singing, President Lungu silently gave the order through Army Commander Paul Mihova which was announced to the public.

“When you speak to the King, the King listens and the King has acted. The President has promoted Staff Sargent Lombe to the rank of Warrant officer,” said the Zambia Army Chaplain who was director of programmes at the ground breaking ceremony for the expansion works at the multi-billion dollar hospital at Maina Soko in Lusaka.

The overjoyed Lombe with tears in his eyes thanked President Lungu for the recognitio­n and praised God for the occasion which has landed him a higher rank.

With support from the choir, he was immediatel­y commission­ed amid loud applause from the crowd.

Warrant Officer Lombe is popular for his leading role in the popular song “Nchito yamba ni kulimba” by the famous Joint Defence Forces Choir.
