Four Manyinga traditional leaders open community school
IN a bid to shorten the long distances pupils cover to access primary education, four traditional leaders in Manyinga District in North Western Province have resolved to open a community school in the area.
The resolution comes after more than 100 pupils from their respective villages dropped out of school due to long distances to the nearest schools. The traditional leaders include headman Nswana Kaleji, Matengeni, Salungu and Chiyeku.
Speaking when officials from the District Education Board Secretary's office visited the area, headman Kaleji disclosed that the resolution was passed during a meeting which resolved to open a community school which will be centrally located to accommodate pupils from all the four villages.
He said the move would help in lessening challenges pupils have been facing in the past to access primary education.
"We know that education is very important for our children and that is why as traditional leaders in the area we came up with this initiative to establish a community school here," the traditional leader said.
And one of the parents Teddy Kiliyo commended the four traditional leaders for the initiative.
He said it had been a challenge for children to access primary education as the nearest schools namely Mayau and Kashinakazhi are over 20 kilometres away.
He appealed to government through the ministry of General Education to procure reading and learning materials for the school.
