Liverpool legend Grobbelaar arrives in Zambia
By SPORTS REPORTER FORMER Liverpool goalkeeper, Bruce Grobbelaar, has arrived in Zambia ahead of the 2018 Standard Chartered Road to Anfield Zambian tournament set to kick off on tomorrow in Lusaka.
The tournament to be held at Fallsway Sports complex in Lusaka is scheduled to feature 40 local amateur soccer teams with the winner expected to represent Zambia at the tournament to be held in the UK.
And speaking upon arrival at the Kenneth Kaunda international Airport in Lusaka, the ex-Zimbabwean International footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Liverpool between 1981 and 1994 said that he was excited to be in Zambia.
Meanwhile, Standard Chartered Bank Chief Executive Officer, Herman Kasekende, said that the bank was excited to host Grobbelaar.
Kasekende noted that the former Liverpool legend would inspire upcoming young players who will participate at this year’s road to Anfield tournament.
Kasekende said the tournament was one of the unique ways of thanking the clients for their loyalty. “We value our clients and want to give them an opportunity to interact one-on one with Liverpool legends. This is one of the unique ways to thank our clients and our key stakeholders for remaining loyal to our franchise, loyal to the Standard Chartered brand,” Kasekende said.
The road to Anfield is an international five-a-side football tournament which offers fans an opportunity to play on a primer League pitch. It also accords the fans a chance to dine with some Liverpool legends and a chance to win the Global Standard Chartered Trophy.
