KALABA DENIES IMPEACHMENT

I don’t know anything about it

- By NATION REPORTER

FORMER Foreign Affairs minister, Harry Kalaba says it is not true that he supports the impeachment motion submitted to the Clerk of national assembly by UPND’s Gary Nkombo and NDC consultant Chishimba Kambwili.

One of the notable people included on the list but have not signed the impeachment motion include, Jack Mwiimbu, Monze Central as well as Jewis Chabi, Independent member of Parliament for Chipili.

The documents submitted also appear to suggest that Mr Kambwili may have signed the impeachment motion from either the cells or ICU because of the dates indicated.

Mr Kalaba, who is also Bahati member of Parliament, told the Daily Nation in an interview yesterday he was not even aware of what was going on in Parliament and it was wrong for anyone to suggest that he was part of the impeachment motion.

“I have not been to Parliament for the past few days and I don’t even know what is going on,” he said.

When asked to explain why his name was appearing on the list submitted to Clerk of Parliament of Member of Parliament in support of the motion, Mr Kalaba simply replied, “It is not true.”

The motion seems to have conflicting dates of submission, with one indicating that it was on March 22 and another showing March 23, 2018.

If it was submitted yesterday, it would suggest that it Mr Kambwili signed from his hospital bed.

A copy of the submitted cover letter circulating on social media indicated that the papers were submitted on Thursday while other copies indicate that the documents were received yesterday March 23.

A total of 57 members of Parliament signed the documents in support of the notice of motion to impeach President Edgar Lungu.

However, the total number of names on the four pages of members of parliament submitted totaled 104 because there appeared to be some duplication.

The motion is expected to come up for debate on Wednesday next week.

It reads in part, “That in terms of article 108(1) of the constitution of Zambia as amended by the constitution of Zambia act no. 2 0f 2016 (the constitution), this House do resolve that the President of the republic of Zambia, Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu be impeached for violation of the constitution and other laws of the republic of Zambia and for gross misconduct.
