Over K400,000 disbursed in Manyinga for SCT

By NATION REPORTER GOVERNMENT has disbursed about K400,360 to Manyinga district in North Western province for beneficiaries of the social cash transfer programme.

Manyinga District Commissioner Queen Manela confirmed the development to the Daily Nation yesterday.

Ms Manela said the funds were disbursed through the Zambia Postal Services Cooperation.

"Government through the Ministry of Community Development under the department of social welfare has disbursed K400, 360 to the social cash transfer beneficiaries in the district,” Ms Manela said.

She disclosed that the funds have been disbursed to a total number of 2,024 beneficiaries out the targeted number of 3,030.

She commended government for rolling out the programme in the district.

She said the programme is targeting the aged, physically challenged and child headed households in order to enable them live decent lives.

"The beneficiaries are happy with the program because this is happening for the very first time in the district," she said.

She further disclosed that the beneficiaries were being paid money ranging from K180 and K280 respectively every after two months.

Ms Manela said the programme will help alleviate poverty among the vulnerable households in the district.
