MOSQUE WALL FENCE DEMOLITION CHEERS RESIDENTS

-

LUSAKA Chawama Constituency residents have expressed happiness with the demolition of part of an illegal wall fence at a mosque which was blocking the free flow of water.

A check by the Daily Nation crew yesterday who took pictures of the mosque and people spoken to nearby indicated that the mosque building was intact and that only part of the wall fence was demolished to allow the free passage of the stagnant water at the vicinity.

Residents who opted to remain anonymous applauded the decision, saying it was unfor- tunate that some people lacked patriotism and would rather insinuate Zambia was intolerant to other faiths when in fact not.

He said the move would ensure the land becomes dry unlike the current situation were the mosque itself was surrounded by water emanating from the Ngwenya Dam and compounded by the flash floods.

“As you see no part of the mosque was demolished its only part of the wall fence whose aim is to allow the water to flow,” he said.

A tyre mender, Benson Mbulo who trades near the mosque complained that his business was not doing well due to floods in the area.

Mr. Mbulo expressed hope that once proper drainages with foot paths were done it would ease the situation and attract more customers to his shop.

Former Lusaka deputy mayor Potipher Tembo was quoted in some sections of media blaming Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo and Nkoloma Ward 1 Councillor Tasila Lungu for directing the demolition of part of the wall fence and frontage of the mosque.
