UNIP slams UPND’s impeachment motion

-

UNITED National Independence Party (UNIP) in Southern Province has described as a failed project and suicide the move by the opposition UPND members of parliament’s decision to file an impeachment motion to Parliament to remove President Edgar Lungu.

Southern Province Provincial Chairman Captain Robert Mukengami has charged that the motion by the UPND MPs is ill-conceived and will not succeed.

“Zambia has an able President who is President Edgar Lungu, and so, the move to take an impeachment motion to parliament to remove him should not be entertained,” he said.

“There are so many issues that these MPs must discuss for the benefit of the people they represent…But if they continue taking such issues to parliament without the blessings of the electorates, then these people should be judged in 2021,” said Captain Mukengami.

Captain Mukengami observed that he had always maintained that the opposition UPND must accept that President Edgar Lungu is the President of Zambia adding that their continued confrontational gimmicks would even make the opposition political party weaker in 2021.

He said that with the dialogue process under way, the opposition UPND members who seem to be the only aggrieved grouping in the country must exercise patriotism if the country is to move forward.

“What they (UPND) are doing is not in the interest of Zambians but for their own grouping… If they say there is corruption in government and that is why they want President Lungu to be impeached, then they should present evidence to the Zambian people before coming up with

such ill-conceived motions in Parliament,” he said.

The UNIP South chief has predicted that the motion would not succeed on account that Patriotic Front (PF) members of Parliament are Outnumbering the opposition UPND in the house.
