THE vision 2030 of achieving water for all may be difficult to achieve unless people realise the importance of protecting resources, says Ministry of Water and Environmental Protection Acting Senior Engineer, Cephas Kuhamba
Speaking during the commemoration of World Water Day in Solwezi on Friday, Mr Kuhamba said there was need for all stakeholders to ensure that sustainable development goal number 6 of ensuring access to clean and safe water for all by 2030 was achieved.
He said about 2.1 billion people world-wide are estimated to be leaving without safe drinking water in homes affecting their health, education and livelihood hence the need to protect the precious commodity.
He implored all stakeholders to respect the laws of the country that govern the utilisation of water resources.
“In this respect, we wish to appeal to all stakeholders that we need concerted efforts to preserve this vital resource if we are to achieve the sustainable development goal number 6 in order to achieve the 2030 vision,’’ Mr Kuhamba said.
And North Western Water Supply and Sewerage Company (NWWSSC) Managing Director, Annot Chilwesa said despite numerous challenges that affect the quality and quantity of water globally, the water utility company remains committed to ensure that high water quality was supplied.
He stated that the company has put in place measures to ensure that the water that was consumed met the required standards.
Mr Chilwesa described this year’s theme dubbed “‘’Water and Nature’’ as vital stressing that it was a wakeup call to all stakeholders to look at nature and how it can be used to improve the quality and availability of water for all.
This was in a speech read for him by NWWSSC Public Relations and Commercial Manager, Makozi Siame.
