Former freedom fighters ‘fight’ over land

- By NATION REPORTER

FACTIONS have emerged among former freedom fighters in Luanshya with one group accusing the other of having sold land which was given to them by Luanshya Municipal Council.

But Luanshya District Commissioner (DC) Joel Chibuye has advised freedom fighters to stop wrangles and serve to inspire the younger generation in the country.

Mr Chibuye said one faction accused the other group led by Mr Aaron Kambatika, who was first black deputy Mayor, of selling land without consulting other members.

He said in an interview that former freedom fighters were supposed to play an advisory role to the younger generation and not be at each other`s throats.

“Freedom fighters are supposed to portray a good example for the younger generation to not only reserve their legacy but also instil a spirit of bravery and wisdom in them.

“It is very disappointing to see freedom fighters quarrelling amongst themselves and pointing fingers at each other all the time instead of focusing on issues affecting them and the people of Zambia," he lamented.

Mr Chibuye advised the organisation to put its house in order for them to gain dignity as leaders who helped liberate Zambia from colonial rulers.

He therefore urged freedom fighters to be fighters of what was right for the people and not what was in their best interests as individuals or associations.

During a meeting at Mikomfwa hall addressed by Zambia United Freedom Fighters Association President, John Waluka, when one faction accused the other of illegally selling land that was given to them by the council.
