LUNGU WAS PROVOKED – CLAIMS BUILDCON

-

By SPORTS REPORTER BUILDCON Football Club says midfielder Chisamba Lungu brandished a pistol at a night club to threaten officials and supporters from a named FAZ team in Kitwe who had provoked him.

In a statement issued to Daily Nation Sports in Lusaka, Buildcon FC media and communications director, Martin Musunka said that Lungu’s actions were motivated by the physical nature of the attack on the player which could have culminated in fatality issues had he not scared away his attackers from the club by way of producing a pistol.

Musunka also said that Lungu has since been released from Police custody following his arrest for threatening violence regarding the scuffle at the night-Club.

Musunka however said that the club condemns in its strongest terms the act by the veteran midfielder to produce a gun in public.

“Our swift investigations proved that Lungu was being trailed by supporters of a named football team in Kitwe who are seemingly bitter with the player’s choice to join Buildcon FC. When they caught up with him at a night club, this named team’s supporters started harassing him physically and verbally which led to him producing a pistol.

“However, Buildcon FC condemns in its strongest terms the act of producing a gun in public but we also understand that the act was motivated by the physical nature of the attack on the player,” Musunka said.

Buildcon has apologised to Lungu for being found in an awkward situation because of being a Buildcon player.

“As Buildcon FC management, we do apologise to Lungu’s family that he found himself in such an unfortunate situation and him being a person carrying our brand, we pay particular attention to his movements and other players in our rank and file.

“All our players are entitled to social life and they also deserve privacy and we would like this matter to be kept out of the public eye as the case is being handled internally.

“We stand behind and assure Lungu of our utmost support as he recovers from such an agonising chapter,” Musunka said.

Meanwhile Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga has confirmed that Lungu is today set to appear in court for threatening to shoot Derick Chama, a resident of Ndeke Village in Kitwe.
