UPND ON CLOUD NINE OVER MUMBI PHIRI’S BAN
… As PF calls UPND ‘hypocrites’
THE UPND is celebrating the disciplinary action against PF deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri who has been slapped with a 30-day suspension from her position and the central committee for gross misconduct and impropriety. And the opposition party has also called for the suspension of Davies Mwila, the ruling party’s secretary general claiming he was “the most indisciplined.” But Patriotic Front deputy media director, Antonio Mwanza charged that UPND was being hypocritical as they had expelled all leaders who dared oppose their president, Hakainde Hichilema. UPND spokesperson, Charles Kakoma yesterday told the Daily Nation that the suspension of Ms Phiri was long overdue.
Mr Kakoma charged that Mr Mwila was however the most indisciplined, accusing the PF chief of ordering party cadres to grab land from innocent people in Central Province.
“PF is an embarrassment to this country, imagine the whole world will hear that the second chief executive of the ruling party in Zambia has been suspended for indiscipline.
“I am sure that if the details about the nature of indiscipline were to be disclosed, it was going to be more embarrassing,” an elated Mr Kakoma said.
Meanwhile, Mr Mwanza reiterated that UPND was childish and bent on using anything available to advance political mileage.
He charged that UPND was not in the right shoes to comment on the internal matters of PF. Mr Mwanza pointed out that UPND had actually expelled its leaders for merely opposing or trying to pump sense into the party president, Mr Hichilema.
“UPND is full of hypocrites and very childish, who are they to comment on our internal matters? The opposition party has suspended and even expelled members before, including vice president Dr Canisius Banda,” Mr Mwanza said.
