Chitambo in cellular network SOS
KAMPELEMBE residents in Chitambo are reported to be cycling a distance of about 45km to access cellular network.
In interview with the Daily Nation, Kampelembe ward Councillor Stanslous Changwe said it was pathetic in the modern era of technology that people in his ward are still cycling long distances in search of cellular network.
He said community members were made to cycle to places where the network was available such as Chalilo, Kaundu and Luombwa, a situation he described as retrogressive.
Mr. Changwe said due to lack of cellular network in the area, government workers such as teachers are shunning and running away to other places where cellular signal was available.
Councillor Changwe noted that, the network challenge had contributed to the shortage of teachers in schools in the ward.
He said there was need for government to look into the matter and consider installation of communication towers in the area for development because communication was vital.
“People are in dire need of cellular network, even one communication tower can make a difference. It is for this reason I’m appealing to government through Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) to erect communication towers in the ward to avert people walking long distances for network.” Mr. Changwe said.
Mr. Changwe said it was a long time since government pledged to erect communication towers in the ward but to date nothing tangible had come forth.
