‘Socialism is retrogressive’
Dr Canisius Banda, a medical doctor by profession however said that the Socialist Party was just an opinion and an alternative way of thinking.
He also said that socialism had so far failed to heal people but that it did maim them instead.
Dr Banda, who is former UPND vice president for politics charged that socialism stifled private initiatives and promoted laziness among citizenry.
“The Socialist Party is just an opinion. Where all know the truth, there cannot be opinions or differences of thinking,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Ngulube maintained that Zambians had experimented on socialism through humanism which lamentably failed as the nation plunged into dead economy in the 1980s.
He said the decision by owner of the defunct Post Newspaper, Fred M’membe, to form the Socialist Party was in futility with the examples from the failed project of Rainbow Party secretary general Wynter Kabimba’s one-man party. Mr Ngulube, who is Kabwe central lawmaker said that no Zambian would attempt to go back to socialism looking at the thriving democracy running on a liberalised economy.
“Long gone are the days when the world preached socialism, way back then when it was very relevant after the First World War and the Second World War, but not now,” said Mr Ngulube.
Mr Ngulube said Zambians were would not entertain such retrogressive ideologies which would be taking the country backwards into socialism which gave all the powers to those in leadership when they have enjoyed their rights and freedoms under the democratic rule.
