Girl (9) in suspected defilement

-

“The child disclosed that she was defiled two days after the incident when she developed severe pains in the stomach and private parts. We immediately got a police report and took the child to UTH, but we were told that the child was just ok and we were just given some pain killers.

“Few weeks later, the child’s condition deteriorated, we couldn’t sleep at night anymore because she was crying of stomach pains and we discovered that she had developed some sores on her private parts.

“We took her back to UTH and they did a urinary test, but we were told to go back after two weeks when the results were ready. During that period Child’s condition kept getting worse by the day.

“Two weeks erupted and we went back to UTH, only to be told that the results got lost together with the child’s form, so they had to re-do the urinary test, which we were told the results would only be ready after another two weeks. We are worried because we do not know what’s wrong with our child and the suspect is nowhere to be seen. We feel UTH are not taking this issue seriously,” lamented the mother. The parents believed that UTH acted negligently by not ensuring proper investigation were carried out.

Now the child is battling with suspected STDs and the suspect has disappeared.

Efforts to get a comment from the UTH Public Relations Officer proved futile as her office was locked and phone calls went un answered.
