ZNUT for affordable loans
BANKS should design appropriate products to help civil servants access affordable loans and invest into viable businesses, Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT), general secretary, Newman Bubala has advised.
0r %ubala said most civil servants depend on their highly ta[ed, and insufficient salaries and are unable to make any investment.
6peaking in an interview with journalists, 0r. %ubala said the current lending rates obtaining in commercial banks are too high for most civil servants.
“There is need to revise some of the lending rates that are currently not affordable for civil servants.
“:e need a situation where we coordinate and work with the banks by looking at what sort of business the civil servants would want to venture into, and then come up with fle[ible products and repayment modes that will be affordable. This will not only contribute to job creation, but economic development,´ he said.
+e said the union would want to see civil servants are independent and not only depent on their salaries to sustain their livelihood.
+e noted that there are a lot of business opportunities in the agribusiness sector adding that with enough financing civil servants can support the sectors growth.
$nd 0r. %ubala said the country should look at ways that will enable every Zambian participate in domestic tourism to further grow the industry.
“*overnment should consider coming up with a system that will promote domestic tourism by making it more affordable and accessible to the local people so that they are able to sell the products to others,´ he said.
+e said while the government is making efforts there is need for more to be done to develop the sector.
