Refocus on economy, Hamududu urges State

- By NATION REPORTER

GOVERNMENT should refocus its approach on the economy and service delivery, says Party for National Unity Highvie Hamududu.

0r. +amududu said the complaints by majority citi]ens about the deteriorating standard of living should compel government to restrategi]e.

+e said as much as the rolling out of countrywide infrastruc- ture projects was important, there was need for a balance with eTually vital interventions which would improve the livelihood of Zambians.

,n an interview yesterday, the opposition leader said government should not take a business as usual approach as the current indicators and complaints from citi]ens were worrisome.

*overnment should refocus. The serious complaints of ma- jority Zambians about the deteriorating standard of living should shake up government to refocus their approach in matters of the economy and service delivery, he said.

0r. +amududu bemoaned the high unemployment and that agriculture which is the mainstay of most Zambians is not doing well.

+e said education services were dwindling amid high fees charged, with parents unable to send their children to school.

0r. +amududu said the councils which were the frontend of service delivery were literally dysfunctional, failing to go beyond the removal of street vendors.

+e said Zambia’s economic direction and service delivery needed urgent re engineering to meet the e[pectations of the majority of the Zambian people.

+e said following his tour of the 8niversity of Zambia 81Z$ main campus last weekend he observed that infrastructure was dilapidated, dirty all around, potholes on campus, congestion in hostels.

0r. +amududu said the situation was unacceptable.

+e has since challenged the 0inistry of +igher Education for a joint tour of the campus with the opposition party.
