Fake teachers warned
THE Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) has dispatched inspectors countrywide to check on teacher compliance to ensure only registered teachers are hired in schools, TCZ spokesperson Ngoza Malonga has disclosed.
In a statement released to the Daily Nation, Ms Malonga explained that the exercise is meant to ensure that only registered teachers are allowed to work in Zambian schools both in public and private schools.
“During the compliance inspections, teachers will be required to provide photocopies of their TCZ registration certificates as proof of registration.
“However, the registered teachers who have not yet received their certificates need not worry as TCZ is aware of their fate,” Ms Malonga said.
She added: “The Compliance Inspections in schools is in line with the Teaching Profession Act No. 5 of 2013 which clearly stipulates that only registered and certified teachers are allowed to operate in any Zambian school.”
Ms Malonga pointed out that the TCZ had set March 31st, 2018 as deadline for teacher registration for all serving teachers.
She advised all serving registered teachers to apply for practicing certificates.
Ms Malonga reaffirmed the TCZ’s commitment towards the operationalisation of the Teaching Profession Act which mandates TCZ to regulate the teachers, their practice and professional conduct from both public and private sectors.
She said the Teaching Profession Act also provides for the accreditation and regulation of all colleges of education.
