Banana boats to ease Ngabwe transport woes

By NATION REPORTER NGABWE Town Council in Central Province has availed four banana boats to the community at a cost of K120, 000.

The boats and life jackets were bought using 20 percent Local Government Equalisati­on fund (LGEF).

Speaking during the handover in Chilwa and Iwonde wards, council chairperso­n, Thabiso Tshili Mizinga said the boats would save the lives of Ngabwe people and those who come for business in the district.

Ms Mizinga said many people had in the past drowned, due to lack of safe water transport, adding that the donation of the boats were a great achievemen­t.

She said that boats would be managed by the council through the ward developmen­t committees at an affordable fee.

"As the community I urge you guard the boats jealousy and contribute towards the maintenanc­e of these boats by paying the necessary charges that would be prescribed by the council, she said.

Ms Mizinga also handed over six VIP double toilets at a cost of K167, 000 to three schools, two health posts and a market funded by the National Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (NRWSS).

She said the NRWSS has also sunk 10 boreholes in the community while 10 have be sunk under Chinese Aid.

Ms Mizinga said all these were government initiative­s aimed at improving the living standards of the people of Ngabwe who are in dare need of such services.
