Man batters wife, flees
A MAN of Ngabwe district is on the run after hitting his wife with a wooden stall and log sustaining a deep cut on the forehead in the process.
The victim Dynes Kayola 34, said the suspect Patson Ntyola of Mwashi village in Chief Mukubwe, injured her after she insisted on sharing the money which the couple made after selling cattle.
Agnes who was found lying almost unconscious along the Ngabwe road and surrounded by hopeless onlookers was rushed to Mumbachala clinic by Ngabwe town council chairperson, Thabi- so Tshili Mizinga for treatment.
Ms Mizinga then reported the matter to the police who rushed to Mwashi village to pick the suspect but by the time they were arriving, he had already fled.
A statement was then recorded from the victim by the police at the clinic where it was further established that the victim suffered a suspended fracture on her left arm and slight cut on the lip.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
Ms Mizinga said she was concerned at the increasing number of gender based violence cases but was disappointed that cases were being withdrawn by the victims in the name of reconciliation.
She said police in the district were doing their best in curbing the vice but were forced to free perpetrators once the victim withdrew the case.
“Police in the district are doing their level best to fight GBV but victims reconcile and thereafter withdraw the cases, as a result, the district has so many GBV cases that are not reported,” said Ms Mizinga.
She said as a witness to the case, she would ensure that the perpetrator is caught and dealt with accordingly so the punishment could serve as a lesson to would-be offenders.
