Bishop rejects Nevers’ religious claims

- By NATION REPORTER

FORMER MMD president Nevers Mumba cannot cry for the Church’s support today when he already declared his commitment to politics which was outside the duties of the men of the collar, says Cathedral of Miracles Church Bishop Naison Nyo-nyo.

Bishop Nyonyo said Dr Mumba cannot claim he has been abandoned by the Church when he chose his own path and abandoned his flock to take up politics.

He said it was shameful what was happening to the men of the collar being caught up in criminal activities landing them in prison, as was the case with the former Victory Ministries overseer.

Bishop Nyonyo said the fprmer televangelist, famous for his Zambia Shall Be Saved broadcast not should complain about the churches’ silence in his matter as in all other matters of similar nature which awaited everybody’s attention.

He said Dr Mumba should instead get onto his knees and pray for himself, and all other inmates sentenced to prison to help turn their hearts against their wrong doings.

“But as a clergyman he was, Dr Mumba should take this opportunity to be on his knees and pray with the inmates with efforts to turn their hearts against their wrong acts which got them in prison in the first place.

“He should be grateful that this comes as an opportunity for him to save the lost sheep in the prisons he is sent to, not to claim that the Church has abandoned him,” Bishop Nyonyo said.

He was commenting on media reports that the pastor turned politician had castigated the church for its silence over his incarceration. The Lusaka Magistrates Court recently convicted and sentenced Dr Mumba to three months simple imprisonment for giving false information to a police officer.

Dr Mumba who has appealed his conviction and sentence was released from prison on bail pending hearing of his appeal.

Bishop Nyonyo said there was no way the Church could begin fighting the courts of law in their findings, but that they would pray for all inmates especially that those falsely accused may be found not guilty, and also offer counsel to those serving to accept their wrongs and repent against their evil activities.
