KAMBWILI, MUSENGE HYPOCRITES- RAINBOW

- By NATION REPORTER

EMBATTLED National Democratic Congress (NDC) consultant Chishimba Kambwili and his secretary general Mwenya Musenge have no moral right to complain about the state of media in the country because they failed to perform while in office, the Rainbow Party (RP) has charged.

RP Copperbelt information and publicity secretary Henry Kabwe stated that media freedom was more threatened when Mr Kambwili was Information and Broadcasting Services minister. Recently, Mr Musenge alleged that the media environment in the country was becoming unsafe and increasingly hostile. This was after police ushered Mr Kambwili and his entourage out of a Mansa radio station where they were hosted on a live programme.

Mr Kabwe said the two top NDC leaders failed to ensure that media practitioners were protected during their tenure adding that it was hypocritical for them to preach media freedom now.

“Mr Kambwili and Mr Musenge served in the highest offices and had influence to see to it that the playing field for the media was even.

“When Mr Kambwili served as Information minister, he enjoyed media coverage and he never com- plained. Just because his radio interview in Mansa was stopped by police, today he is crying that the environment for journalists in Zambia is not conducive and slowly degenerating. Let them stop exhibiting hypocrisy,” he said.

He said Mr Kambwili had the opportunity to better the media landscape and his experiences today was continuity of what he created when he was in office.

Mr Kabwe has since urged the NDC leaders to stop mocking Zambians with their utterances.
