LUNGU CONDEMNS MOOMBA VIOLENCE
PRESIDENT Lungu has strongly condemned the recent political violence in Moomba Constituency in Monze Mwanza ward in which several Patriotic Front (PF) cadres were attacked by suspected UPND cadres.
Some of the attacked PF cadres have since been admitted at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
President Lungu has since appealed to the general public to resist any form of violence especially political violence.
Speaking when he made a donation of two Noah buses to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lusaka’s Chilenje Township yesterday through Kabwata Member of Parliament Given Lubinda, President Lungu has since asked the parishioners to be ambassa- dors of peace for the prosperity of the nation.
President Lungu urged the Catholics to lead the way in preaching peace whenever they gathered as Zambia was a Christian nation.
President Lungu said his Government will continue rendering support to the Church because the Church had a role to pray for the nation and offer guidance to political leaders despite their different dominations.
“President Lungu came here in February to congregate with the parishioners and they disclosed the challenges the parish was facing in terms of transport, completion of a house for the parish priest and completion of an ablution block among other things, and today he assigned us together with Presidential Affairs Minster Freedom Sikazwe to come and handover the two vehicles and the resources that were required to complete pending projects,” said Mr Lubinda.
And Parish Priest Fr. Francis Zulu thanked President Lungu for the donation which he said would go a long way in helping the parish conduct their pastoral work at the parish.
Fr. Zulu thanked President Lungu for rendering support to the church and appealed to the corporate world to emulate the Head of State.
“We are grateful to President Lungu for this gesture and please convey our message to the Head of State and these vehicles will help in terms of pastoral work and for the glory of the church,” said Fr Zulu.
