HH challenged to condemn violence

- By NATION REPORTER

THE ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has challenged UPND leader, Hakainde Hichilema to come clean on several misdeeds he has been accused of inflicting on poor Zambians and to condemn the recurrence of violence in the Monze by-election campaigns.

And the ruling party has called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to assess the security situation in the area and consider postponing the Monze by-election indefinitely until public peace was assured.

PF media director, Sunday Chanda reiterated that Mr Hichilema should feel for the poor retirees by telling the nation the truth about the Saturnia Trust saga and offshore accounts revealed by the Panama Papers.

Mr Chanda further challenged the UPND leader to come out clean on linkages to Cambridge Analytica considering the voter pattern that characterized the 2016 elections especially in Southern Province.

Mr Chanda charged that Zambians were also gravely concerned at the displacement of over 600 villages in Namwala district whose customary land Mr Hichilema fenced off, leaving the locals without grazing land for their animals.

“We wonder if this was the reason Mr Hichilema remained so opposed to the proposed Land Policy,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Chanda called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to assess the security situation in the area and consider postponing the Monze by election indefinitely until public peace was assured.

He said that the ruling party did not see how its candidate whose wife was badly beaten could campaign in an environment where his immediate family continued to live in fear of attacks.

“Zambians must ask Mr. Hichilema whether his silence on such UPND perpetrated and sponsored violence helps the situation. He must be asked to imagine a Zambia were UPND members would be attacked in PF strongholds and if that is the Zambia he wants to contribute to,” said Mr Chanda.

Mr Chanda said that Mr Hichilema’s continued silence several hours since UPND members sav-
