ANALYST BLAMES STAKEHOLDERS OVER FAILED DIALOGUE
THE much-anticipated national dialogue is being derailed because some principal stakeholders have set different goalposts and have clandestine motives for political capital, a political analyst, has observed.
Mr. Patrick Chinengu Luneta said while dialogue was at the epicentre of democracy, major players whose clarity of mind over the matter needed to heal the nation had been dilly-dallying and making unnecessary excuses.
The stakeholders were setting conditions over what was needed before the reconciliation could take effect because they had their own hidden agenda and interest.
He said it was sad that despite being highly publicised, the dialogue and reconciliation process had remained an endless chorus devoid of practical steps to ensure that such an important exercise came to fruition and blamed everything on selfish ambitions. “The muchanticipated national dialogue is being derailed because principal stakeholders have set different goal posts and have clandestine motives for political capital.
“In as much as the national dialogue is the only redemptive and remedial process to restore national unity, foster social, economic and political stability, the principle stakeholders are holding the entire nation at ransom because of setting preconditions that tilt towards serving their political fortunes during and after the process,” Mr. Luneta said. He noted that dialogue was paramount in any political dispensation whether the country was going through turmoil or not and warned of grave consequences if the process failed.
