MAKE SCHOOL AN EXAMINATION CENTRE - COUNCILLOR

- By NATION REPORTER

NKOMASHI residents in Luano District have appealed to government to consider making Chipumfi Primary School an examination centre to prevent pupils in examinations classes from walking far away to sit for exams.

In interview with the Daily Nation Nkomashi ward councillor Goliath Kapemba said government through the ministry of education should allocate the school an examination centre number to prevent grade seven and nine pupils from going to sit for exams 16km away at Nyanje Primary School in Mkushi.

Councillor Kapemba stated that grade eight and nine classes were introduced at the school four years ago, but it was still not an examination centre, added that this was a cost to parents.

And Mr. Kapemba explained that the school also had no computer laboratory and facilities, a situation he noted made teaching computer studies difficult.

"Some pupils have never even seen a computer before, so it becomes difficult for pupils to understand lessons. It is for this reason that as a community we are appealing to government to provide computers to schools in rural communities to facilitate learning." Mr. Kapemba said.

Councillor Kapemba explained that the school was understaffed and was forced to rely on volunteers, saying there was need for government to deploy trained staff at the school.

He was concerned that if nothing was done quickly, the performance of the pupils would be below the community expectations.
