Private sector key to economic change
THE private sector is a critical factor in economic and social transformation of our country, says Chongwe central area councillor Juveniles Mulimbika.
Mr Mulimbika said this when he toured the Chongwe central business district to check on compliance levels of hygiene and safety standards among shop owners. "I am impressed by the compliance levels and only wish the hygiene and safety standards would continue. We must continue to maintain high levels of hygiene. One thing that caught my attention was, one trader Terry Moono who is running a number of mobile financial booths and employing over 20 youthful workers," he said. Mr Mulimbika could not hide his happiness to see an average entrepreneur create income for over 20 families.
“This is commendable and I can only appeal to other business people to be innovative and strive to grow to levels that will create wealth for the whole community. This is one of the roles of entrepreneurs in a liberal market economy like ours.
“Entrepreneurs are a key factor in improving the livelihood of the community members,” he said. Mr Mulimbika called on the business houses in the district to consider forming a chamber of commerce that would be affiliated to the national body for them to tap into the strengths of other entrepreneurs around the county.
“We need to think beyond our backyards. Chongwe has the potential to grow if only we work at enhancing partnerships with necessary business connections,” he said.
