Immigration officers warned
BE wary of international criminals who may wish to enter Zambia and pursue criminal activities, North Western Province Permanent Secretary, Ephraim Mateyo has warned Immigration Officers.
Speaking in Solwezi yesterday when he officiated at the senior immigration officers and officersin-charge consultative meeting for the North-western region, Mr Mateo said immigration officers manning border posts need to ensure critical examination of people entering Zambia at various border controls so as not to allow criminal elements in the country. Mr Mateyo also urged immigration officers to maintain exceptional and professional conduct when attending to foreign expatriates who required facilitation of residential and work permits so as not to hinder investor confidence with their attitude. Meanwhile, Mr Mateyo warned that his office will not tolerate any kind of financial mismanagement or embezzlement of government revenue by those charged with the responsibility of collecting and banking it.
Speaking earlier, Regional Immigration Officer, Killian Lwiindi said the department in 2017, apprehended and successfully prosecuted 259 suspected prohibited immigrants who flouted the requirements of the immigration and deportation act. Mr Lwiindi said in the same year the department collected K6, 115,915 and US$ 314,830 as government revenue.
The Regional Immigration Officer said the department remained resolute to effectively fulfil its mandate of contributing to sustenance of the country’s internal security and enhancement of social and economic being through maximized revenue collection.
