I am MMD president, insists Mutati
By NATION REPORTER MY silence over what has transpired in the MMD since I was legitimately elected as president through a convention must never be mistaken for weakness, MMD president Felix Mutati has warned.
Mr Mutati has maintained that he will not abandon the MMD because he was given the mandate as a leader by the people who voted for him at a legitimate convention which ushered in the current party leadership.
He said he would not be a leader of the party if the membership did not want him to be and that he would continue to serve as party president for as long as the membership approved of his leadership.
Mr Mutati said he would not abandon the party because he drew his mandate from the membership which voted for him at the last convention in Kabwe. He said a lot of things had happened and had been said about the MMD since he took over power, with some stakeholders suggesting that the party leadership was compromised but warned that people should not mistake his silence for weakness and use it to insinuate that the party was dead because the MMD “cannot and will not die.”
He said his position as party president and his subsequent appointments to the Ministries of Finance and Works and Supply was because he was accepted by the people and reiterated that the working relationship between the PF and MMD was still strong and urged members not to look at the alliance as his baby alone but as a corporate agreement where all had a say.
