SOLWEZI DUAL CARRIAGEWAY TO BE COMPLETED IN JULY

-

By NATION REPORTER THE construction of the 5 kilometre dual carriage way in Solwezi district is scheduled to be completed by July this year.

This came to light when North Western province minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu inspected the road works yesterday in the company of officials from the Road Development Agency (RDA).

Government through the Road Development Agency (RDA) has engaged China Geo Corporation (CGC) to upgrade the Independence Avenue in Solwezi into a dual carriage way at a total cost of K1.7 million.

RDA regional manager, Manda Ndabane, told the provincial minister that the project was on course and was expected to be completed within the stipulated time frame.

Engineer Ndabane said the scope of works for the road project includes the construction of a round-about at Kyawama airport junction, a highland, installation of street lights and bus stops on either side of the road.

He disclosed that the scope of work has been revised as the dual carriage way has been extended to Kansanshi mine junction in Mitec area from the initial Solwezi River Bridge.

“So, as I earlier said the project is on course and by July it will be completed. This will include pedestrian crossing points and speed humps,” he said.

And Mr Mubukwanu said the construction of a dual carriage way in Solwezi will not only add beauty to the town but ease the movement of goods and people.

He said the project is being done at huge cost hence the need to generate benefits.

He said Government has attached great importance to infrastructure development because it is key to achieving meaningful development.

The provincial minister has also urged local contractors that have been given jobs to deliver quality works.
