HEADMAN HAILS HEALTH CENTRE PROJECT

- By NATION REPORTER

A TRADITIONAL leader of Lukosha village in Namwala has applauded the construction of the first health centre in his area since independence, saying locals will no longer travel long distances to access health care.

Headman Lukosha of Chief Mukobela’s area said in the past, people were forced to cover long distances to access health services but that this would no longer be the case.

Speaking to the Daily Nation in Namwala, the headman said his subjects were excited about the benefits the project would bring.

He said once opened, the health centre would not only shorten the distance expectant mothers cover to access maternal services but would also greatly help in improving the general wellbeing of the local community.

He however appealed to the Ministry of Health to expedite the opening of the new health centre so people in area can access health care services within their backyard.

He said currently, his people had to cover long distance to Namwala Boma which is more than 100 km to access health care services.

Headman Lukosha thanked the government for the massive development his area and Namwala district was receiving. The headman cited the sinking of boreholes and construction of the new Namwala District Hospital which he said had resulted in the local people been attended to without being referred to Macha Mission Hospital for emergency treatment.

He said since the PF came to power in 2011, rural areas of Namwala had been receiving unprecedented development in all the key sectors such as construction of roads, clinics, upgrading of schools and deep tanks.

The traditional leader however appealed to Government to consider upgrading community schools to improve the quality of education in the district.
