Kambwili seeks default judgement

- By NATION REPORTER

CHISHIMBA Kambwili wants the Lusaka High court to enter a judgement in his favour in a case in which he has sued Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda, for alleged defamation.

Mr Kambwili who is PF Roan Member of parliament asked the court to enter a judgement in default of defence and appearance to his defamation.

Mr Kambwili wants a public retraction and an apology to his satisfaction, punitive damages for libel and any other reliefs that the court may deem fit.

He seeks damages for mental anguish and strain arising from false and malicious statements published in various media.

This is in a matter in which, Mr Kambwili accused Mr Chanda of calling him a scrap metal thief in an interview that was allegedly given to then online and print publication, News Diggers.

He accused Mr Chanda of saying that ‘people have been poisoned by a poisonous elite, people who are accustomed to lies like Kambwili, a scrap metal dealer, a downright straight thief.

He can question about me and say a simple journalist [has acquired wealth]. Let’s assume I am simple journalist but I am qualified, more qualified than he is. But he goes around and says a simple journalist.

A scrap metal dealer, and you have a population clapping in the context that like that one. Kambwili is talking nonsense and the population is clapping for him.

He goes to malign an innocent person and the population is cheering him on. He is a metal thief, well documented. He is not even a scrap metal dealer, he is a thief’.

He alleged that the said words were understood to mean that he was a wellknown documented scrap metal thief and a thief in general.

Mr Kambwili claimed the words were false, malicious and defamatory and he had been severely injured by them.
