Be responsible - Minister advises scribes
MEDIA houses should not underrate the capacity they have of influencing community decisions, says North Western Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation shortly after concluding his tour of local media houses in Solwezi yesterday, Mr Mubukwano said media houses should learn from what had happened in some countries where irresponsible journalism had caused irreparable damage to the lives of people in communities.
Mr Mubukwanu called on the media to preach a messages of love, peace and unity as well as drive the development agenda of the province.
He said it was the desire of Government to see media houses play a major role in national building by promoting values and principles.
“Sometimes we tend to concentrate so much on discussing politics and all these other divisive things but as media you have a duty and responsibility to inform and educate” he said.
Mr Mubukwanu said nation building was not the responsibility of Government alone but required concerted efforts from all stakeholders especially media houses.
Mr Mubukwanu urged the local media houses to continue serving the interests of the community by highlighting the various developmental projects being implemented by Government.
