Bupe and Mapalo go home: Wina praises UTH doctors
ACTING President Inonge Wina has commended the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) management medical team for undertaking a successful surgery to separate Siamese twins. Speaking when she visited the twins Bupe and Mapalo Mwape at UTH yesterday, Mrs Wina said the separation of the twins had clearly shown that UTH could undertake complicated surgeries if Government continued to support the institution with all necessary facilities.
Mrs Wina said President Edgar Lungu was committed to ensuring that UTH and other health institutions in the country were properly equipped.
She however said Government would continue rendering necessary support to the twins.
“As you may be aware Minister of Health Dr Chitalu Chilufya has been going around the country to inspect district hospitals so that they can also be strengthened to take care of cases that do not need to be referred to UTH and that way our central hospital can be de-congested,” said Mrs Wina. She said it was Government’s policy to take health services closer to the people.
This was why government had embarked on the construction of health posts to enable people easily access to medical services.
And UTH Head of Clinical Care Dr Mulindi Mwanahamuntu said the twins who have since been discharged were free to go home. Dr Mwanahamuntu said the twins have recovered fully, but would need to be coming for check-ups .
