UPPZ adopts Kope for Chilanga seat

-

By NATION REPORTER UNITED Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) has adopted Francis Kope to contest the June 5 Chilanga parliamentary by-election.

UPPZ leader Charles Chanda said the party had gained momentum and that it was important to contest the seat.

This will be the first time the party will contest an election since it was formed.

Mr Chanda has said days were gone when politicians used violence and insults to campaign at the expense of delivering their message.

He said politicians should realise that the voters deserved peace and care.

Mr Chanda said this when the party unveiled Mr Kope as its candidate for the Chilanga seat in Lusaka yesterday.

And Mr Kope said there was need to ensure people benefitted from the nation’s resources.

Mr Kope said UPPZ was the only party with a desire to empower Zambians and accused past MPs of failing the electorate.

Meanwhile, the National Restoration Party has adopted Pride Mazabuka to contest the Chilanga seat.

NAREP secretary-general Ezra Ngulube said participating political parties avoid violence as the people of Chilanga were a peaceful people.

Mr Ngulube said all political parties must prepare themselves for issue-based campaigns instead of spreading violence.

He explained that the people of Chilanga were very peaceful as evidenced by their reception during the party’s tour of all the 10 wards.

And NAREP says it will participate in the 2018 May Day celebrations in honour of all the gallant heroes driving the national economy.

Mr Ngulube said they were not in the habit of boycotting national events which were non-partisan in nature as such events united the citizens for a purpose.
