‘90 Niggas’ released on bail

-

By NATION REPORTER THIRTEEN boys suspected of belonging to the notorious “90 Niggas” gang were yesterday granted bail by a Kitwe magistrate`s court

The 13 Juveniles appeared before Magistrate Leonard Tembo for commencement of trial but the matter could not take off due to unavailability of witnesses.

They are charged with idle and disorderly conduct which which are alleged to have committed on April 4, this year.

The court granted them K5000 bail in their own recognition with two working sureties although the State objected to the bail application.

A State prosecutor said it would not be in the best of the community for the juveniles to be allowed bail because they could commit more crimes.

“Even though the offence may be available but at the rate at which they are committing crime if left unattended to, they will go back to the community and continue with crimes. So for their safety and that of the community, it is better they stay custody for the time being,” the prosecutor said.

The 13 juveniles however insisted that they were school-going children and most of them in examinations classes.

The Magistrate granted them bail and adjourned the case May 21, this year for commencement of trial.

Meanwhile, a Ndola magistrate`s court has set tomorrow as the day on which a woman of Kabushi township accused of burning her step daughter should take plea.

When the matter was called yesterday before Principle Resident Magistrate obbister Musukwa, it was noted that the indictment was defective.

The prosecutor handling the case applied that the case be adjourned for to enable him amend the charge.

The application was granted and the accused person was moved back to Masala police station.

In this case, Tasila Nyirenda allegedly burnt her 11-year-old step daughter in her palms using red-hot charcoal for eating three pieces of meat.

Apparently, the girl was suspected to have eaten the meat reserved for her father and this infuriated her mother who got burning charcoal and forced the child to squeeze it in between her palms.

It is alleged that the woman forced the girl to hold tightly a red-hot piece of charcoal in between her palms until it was quenched.

The victim sustained serious burns and was treated at Arthur Davis Children`s Hospital.
