CROCODILES TERRORISE SIAVONGA RESIDENTS

- By NATION REPORTER

DOMESTIC activities have come to a standstill on Lake Kariba in Siavonga following rampart reports of crocodile attacks in the area.

Residents are now living in fear to do their daily routines on the lake as crocodiles have continued to terrorise villagers.

District Commissioner, Lovemore Kanyama announced that a woman of Munyama area only identified as Mrs Grace was on Sunday afternoon around 16: 00 killed by a crocodile.

Mr Kanyama said that another relative to the girl was again killed by a crocodile at the same place last month.

“I’m disturbed by reports of people being attacked and killed by crocodiles in the district. Residents of Siavonga whose homes are near the lake must avoid going to the lake for domestic activities without the company of friends and husbands so as to avoid such accidents.

“The lady who was killed on Sunday is a relative of the girl who was killed earlier at the same place,” he said.

He said that the body had since been retrieved from the lake and was kept in the house of the deceased awaiting burial.

Mr Kanyama however said that National Parks and Wild Life officers were on the ground hunting for the crocodiles on the lake.

He said that the officers had been directed to kill the crocodiles once spotted as a way of reducing the reptile population on the lake which was on the increase.
