‘CRIMINALS HIDING IN CEMETERY’

- By NATION REPORTER

CRIMINALS are hiding in Lusaka’S Old Leopard Hill Cemetery and attacking people especially marketeers who go early in morning to buy their merchandise as well as people going for work.

This has raised fears among some affected residents from Salama Park area and Twin Palm following the spate of criminal activities.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Emeldah Mumba a vendor from Salama area complained that the area was no longer safe because criminals from Bauleni and Mtendere East-Maplot were attacking people.

Ms Mumba has called on Zambia Police to intensify patrols before many lives and people’s properties were lost.

She also said school going children especially the girls were victims, adding that the police should move in quickly.

“People are now living in fear following a gang of men hiding in the bush while others are in the graveyard.

They are attacking people and getting things from them and if you resist they are assaulting them.

“Just last week as I was going to Soweto market before I boarded a bus a man came from the bush and blocked me between Twin Palm and Salama area and he asked me if I saw another man and when I refused he asked me to run for my life and warned never to use that route again,” said Ms Mumba.

Another trader Ann Kasonde said on Tuesday as she was going to buy her merchandise she saw a man wearing Muslim attire washing his face by the grave yard at Old Leopards Hill Cemetery who attempted to attack her.
