Lwandamina bubbling with confidence
WE will do our best and also involve Jehovah to triumph over Mbabane Swallows, Zesco United head coach George Lwandamina has said.
Lwandamina said he had psyched the players well enough and was confident that his boys were capable of delivering a positive result.
Lwandamina was bubbling with confidence during a pre– match media conference at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola yesterday ahead of the CAF championship group D match against the Swazis.
He emphasised that he had a responsibility to protect the legacy of the club to continue on a winning streak particularly that he was on his second comeback.
“Prior to my departure for Young Arrows in 2017, I managed to get the club into the semi- finals stage of the CAF championship competition. But, what I can say is that possibilities are high that we can take the team to another level seeing that players are still the same and management has remained intact.
“The responsibility to deliver is not only about me as an individual but collaborative efforts with management, players and soccer fans pulling in one direction,” he said.
Lwandamina noted that the assignment was important and that he was not undermining the opponent. He stated that the camp had suffered a few knocks but that they were manageable.
He said players had undergone the test and only those that had passed would be selected to undertake the assignment.
And speaking earlier, Mbabane Swallows coach Thabo Vilakati said the side has experience of Zambian play style from recent encounters with Zanaco, hence players felt no intimidation to take on ZESCO.
Vilakati said his team was equal to the task as they were also champions of the league in their country.
He disclosed that the set target for the encounter was to win the match and proceed in the tournament. “It is the first time that we are participating in the group stage of the tournament and we have respect for the club we are playing. However, we are not afraid, if it were so we would not be here but simply we would have asked CAF to give a bye to our opponent. We are playing eleven against 11 players and our expectations are positive,” he said.
