State to support innovative universities
GOVERNMENT will continue supporting innovative universities and the establishment of institutions that promote the education sector, Minister of Higher Education Prof Nkandu Luo has said.
In a speech read for her by director of science and technology Jane Chisuka during the institutions graduation ceremony of 62 masters’ students in education management at DMI University yesterday, Prof Luo government would continue to support innovative universities such as DMI St Eugene.
Prof Luo commended the university for introducing distance and virtue learning at the university.
She said the country needed more graduates in education management as the quality of education countrywide needed to improve.
Prof Luo said private universities such as DMI St Eugene had proven capable of supplementing programmes being carried out by government.
Prof Luo further urged the university to consider introducing a school of health sciences as science and technology were integral to national development.
And DMI St Eugene University council President T.X.AAnanth said the graduands should ensure that they used their qualifications to contribute to the welfare of the country.
“This should not be the end. Let us continue to work hard and go even further to do our PHDs and contribute to the welfare of the country, because that is what acquiring a good education is all about,” he said.
Dr Ananth said government’s promotion of the private sector had done a lot in improving the education system in the country.
He reiterated the importance of science and mathematics in schools.
