Chisomo Primary School upgrade underway
PLANS are underway to upgrade Serenje’s Chisomo Primary School in into a Secondary, says Chisomo ward councillor Peter Mukosha.
Mr Mukosha told the Daily Nation in interview that the plan had already started being implemented by the community and the school administration together with Parents Teachers Association (PTA) through moulding of over 25,000 bricks for construction of a one by three classroom block.
“The community in the area have been segmented into sections and tasked to mould 3,000 timber bricks per section for the project." Mr Mukosha said.
Councillor Mukosha said to this effect, he had donated building materials worth K26,000 for construction of a one by three classroom block.
He said the building materials include 120 roofing sheets and 110 pockets of cement and will pay for labour on construction works. Mr Mukosha said he had made a donation to the school to expedite construction of the structure which will cater for grade 10,11, and 12 pupils.
He said as area councillor, he had a social responsibility to plough back into the community and to fulfill the campaign promise he had made to put up the structure.
He added that construction of the structure would enhance the process of upgrading the school.
The civic leader noted that sponsoring senior secondary pupils to Ibolelo and Serenje Boys Secondary
Schools that were 110 km away was costly for parents, adding that’s why the project was initiated.
Mr Mukosha further observed that once the classroom block was completed and school upgraded, it would help in reducing early marriages in Chief Chisomo's Chiefdom as many youths would be housed and kept busy with studies.
