LICS hosts arts festival
This past week saw the launch of the first ever Lusaka Arts Festival organised by Lusaka International Community School (LICS) in partnership with the embassies of Italy, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Finland, Ireland and the EU, and lead sponsor, Toyota Zambia, the Festival was a triumph of the Arts.
An exciting element of the 4-day event, which was enthusiastically presented by the Embassy of Italy, was the fashion component.
The Italian Ambassador, His Excellency Filippo Scammacca, a passionate proponent of fashion and design saw the opportunity not only for celebrating local fashion but also for developing the fashion industry in Zambia.
The Italian Embassy graciously sponsored the presence of Italian Professor Dalia Gallico, who is President of the Fashion and Design Faculty at Università San Raffaele in Rome, Italy.
The Professor gave an enthusiastic presentation at the Arts Festival called "Fashion Talks".
She spoke about trends in fashion design and highlighted the movement in Europe of the use of African themes in modern designs.
The Lusaka Arts Festival defined as its Vision, the offering an annual compelling and rich Arts event in Lusaka, creating a fun-raising community experience, establishing a platform for experiencing and participating in the Arts, developing Arts talent in the broader community and, cultivating intercultural experiences and connections.
“Professor Gallico’s contribution, looking at the Arts through the lens of fashion, paid tribute to these ideals and has sparked interest in many quarters. We look forward to tracking the growth and development of design and fashion in Zambia,” he said
