Manja Pamodzi will uplift living standards - Kapata

-

By NATION REPORTER THE Manja Pamodzi initiative will improve the living standards of Garden compound residents and help reduce waste and litter in the community through the collection of plastic bottles, says Mandevu Member of Parliament Jean Kapata.

Ms Kapata said Manja Pamodzi which is being supported by Zambian Breweries Limited (ZBL) was a great opportunity for all residents to clean the environment and earn them income by selling used plastic bottles to the liquor company.

She said the project had come at a right time when Government through President Edgar Lungu had re-launched the Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy campaign.

Ms. Kapata who is Lands Minister said this on Saturday in Ngwerere Ward 19 when she officially launched the project.

“This is an empowerment program targeting the women and youths by engaging them in collection of plastic bottles which shall be sold to the brewery firm,” she said.

The minister said her Constituency office would work and support area councillor Adrian Banda to ensure the project yields the desired results.

Ms. Kapata commended ZBL and Millennium Challenge Ac- count (MCA) for their support to the communities in Mandevu and Lusaka at large.

And Mr. Banda said a number of participating residents were rewarded with gifts for the bottle and paper waste collection and received mobile phones, cookers, food hampers and Shoprite vouchers.

The civic leader expressed happiness that his ward was picked for the project as it would create employment and make the environment clean and green.
