Luanshya in K1.5M road fillip
LUANSHYA Municipal Council has embarked on a K1.5 million peri- urban road rehabilitation project after conducting a road survey exercise.
The project was aimed at opening up new areas for agriculture related activities using locally generated resources.
Luanshya Mayor Nathan Chanda that the local authority would start grading and gravelling feeder roads in the peri-urban areas, which were predominantly agricultural sector-driven.
Mr Chanda told the Daily Nation in an interview that the project was important not only to farmers but also to other citizens in general.
He said it would facilitate the easy and fast movement of goods and services.
The Mayor also said he had received numerous inquiries on when the rehabilitation of major roads in the town centre, industrial area, Roan-Mpatamato and other townships would commence.
Mr Chanda has assured the residents that the Road Development Agency (RDA) has started the process.
He said massive road rehabilitation works would commence now that the rainy season was coming to an end.
"I can confirm this because l was in Lusaka at Road Development Agency on behalf of the residents in Luanshya and we had a very successful meeting," Mr Chanda said.
The residents’ concerns have arisen after Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Development, Ronald Chitotela in March this year announced in Luanshya that the roads needed a complete makeover.
Rehabilitation is expected to include the 45 kilometre Fisenge Masangano road, the stretch from Luanshya Civic Centre up to the Kitwe- Ndola dual carriageway.
The other project would cover 60.8 kilometres road makeover in Luanshya under the C-400 road projects.
Mr Chitotela recently announced the rehabilitation of additional 50 km by China Henan International.
