‘CONSIDER MODERNISING UTH MATERNITY WING’
GOVERNMENT should consider modernising University Teaching Hospital (UTH) maternity wing which is in deplorable state, says a concerned Lusaka resident Janet Mwagoma.
In an interview with the Daily Nation yesterday, Ms Mwagoma cited the lack of water at the maternity wing as a major setback for expecting mothers.
Ms Mwagoma said mothers were having challenges in accessing water because tanks had been stolen and vandalised.
She appealed to security per- sonnel at the country’s first health referral centre to ensure that they brought to book anyone found vandalising or removing the public installations.
“We are appealing to security guards to be alert and ensure that they bring to book anyone found vandalising the facility because it is detrimental in development of the nation,” said Ms Mwagoma.
In another development, a Lusaka resident, Penjani Kabaso, has commended government for modernizing UTH casualty and emergency wings saying this will augment government’s efforts in health service provision.
In an interviews with the Daily Nation yesterday, Mr Kabaso expressed happiness that the facility which was closed months ago to facilitate renovations had re-opened and was serving its purpose to the public.
He said the general public including the patients were now enjoying the atmosphere at the institution adding it has also motivated the health personnel to execute their duties diligently.
“The modernization of UTH casualty and emergency wing has improved work culture at the facility among health personnel because they are now operating in clean environment, but my appeal to the general public IS to safe guard the facility from being damaged,” said Mr Kabaso.
