By NATION REPORTER

POLICE in Petauke have arrested 10 suspected criminals in connection with three aggravated robbery attacks in Petauke

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said the incident happened on April 27th between 21:00 hours and 23:30 hours.

The suspects are alleged to have attacked and stolen from Lenard Tembo of Lungwe Village of Chief Nyamphande, Francis Phiri aged 23 of Petauke’s Showgrounds and Charles Banda aged 34 of Petauke’s Anusa Compound.

Ms Katongo said the suspects have since been charged with three counts of aggravated robbery and are appearing in court today.

“As Police, we have observed with concern the rise in gangs and we wish to warn such groups that officers are on high alert and will work round the clock to crack down on such groups of hooligans in a bid to protect the public,” said Ms Katongo.

And Ms Katongo has refuted social media article by Zambian Scorpion suggesting that the Zambia Police Service has partnered with the Patriotic Front to deploy police officers to Chilanga with offensive weapons. Ms Katongo said the article further alleged that Police officers

deployed to Chilanga have been promised allowances when the ruling party wins the election.

She said it was irresponsible and immature for the author to insinuate that the PF would pay the officers deployed to Chilanga

She however said police will be conducting on the spot checks and will be searching motor vehicles getting into and out of Chilanga as the situation may demand and anyone found with offensive weapons will be dealt with.
